Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), a WHO declared global
pandemic, is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus
originated in WUHAN province of China.
AFFECTS ALL POPULATION SEGMENTS
The COVID-19 outbreak affects all segments of the population
with higher susceptibility to the elderly, especially those with prior chronic
health conditions such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
Most of the infected individuals will develop mild-to-moderate
illness and recover without hospitalization.
THE INFECTION & SYMPTOMS
The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of
saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, thus
it’s important that one should also practice respiratory etiquette (for example,
wearing a mask,or by coughing into a flexed elbow).
On average it takes 5–6 days from when someone is infected
with the virus for symptoms to show, however it is known to take up to 14 days for
symptoms to show.
